Nuascéalta and the O’Flahertys: Agallamh/ Interview in English and Irish: Éamon Ó Ciosáin le Tomás Mac Síomóin (25 Jan 2021)

——————————————————
Nuascéalta have republished three works by O'Flaherty which were banned in Ireland on publication and never reprinted. Censorship denied the Irish reading public O'Flaherty's forceful, realist, modernist portrait of the nascent Irish state. It also denied O'Flaherty readers in his native country. His depiction of Irish life and American cinema clashed with the consensus of the time. Writer and publisher Tomás Mac Síomóin of Nuascéalta discusses the continuing shirking of O'Flaherty's work by the Irish establishment in spite of the qualities of his writing. In this interview with Éamon Ó Ciosáin he also discusses issues of language, exile and belonging as they apply to himself and to Liam and Tom O'Flaherty.
